i startled my dog laughing so hard at your comments about wool suits. The shtieblle on my block is Modern Orthodox, so the men wear light suits in the summer, though the women are all sheitelled up. I do not know how they do it.

However, the shitieble two blocks up, it's more Haredi, and there are Hasidim who go there. So fur hats in the summer. Mind. Blown.

And yeah, my mom was big on lighting Shabbat candles when I was a kid. My dad was into it too, which was nice. Very Shalom Bayit.

OH. In graduate school, Chabad women were giving out menorahs and candles. Took one. Got home. Nightfall comes. I started to light the channukiah, and lit my hair on fire. And when I was in high school, my mom was late coming home, so my brother helped me light the menorah, but he knocked my hand over, and we lit the menorah on fire. Luckily, poured water on it, and it is just slightly damaged. But me and lighting candles don't have a great history.
